Understanding a Digital SLR Camera

Do you want information about how a DSLR camera works? Read this article and learn to find the best digital slr.

From the first glance a Digital SLR camera may look like any other digital camera but it is different in a number of ways. One differentiating feature that stands out is that of clarity without distortion i.e. the user is able to see the image he or she is about to take without being altered by anything within the camera.

This result in an even better quality that your every day camera. This is what you need to understand, in a compact digital camera the image that you see through the viewfinder/ eyepiece or the LCD screen is digitally generated that is to say the image that the user wants to capture is captured by the lens and then sent to the screen using electronic components while in a digital SLR camera the image is taken to the viewfinder by mirrors and lenses that reflects the image from one mirror to another.

I have over simplified the explanation but this is how it works essentially. Yes there is more below but now you can go online to find what is the best digital slr camera for the money.

Let me unpack this explanation a bit more, it all starts by the light entering the camera through the lens. Once the light enters the camera it hits a mirror, which reflects it to a condenser lens. The lens then sends it to a 5 sided prism that diverts it to the user’s eye in the eye piece. When the photographer takes the picturethe mirror swings upwards to allow the light coming through the lens to be sent straight to the image sensor.

I am sure now you understand me when I say with a digital SLR camera you see the image exactly as it is.

We said earlier that what you see on the viewfinder is the exact image but in most instances it is not 100%. This means you need to check the specs of the camera i.e. how much coverage it has and its brightness. the best possible image coverage is 95% but your naked eye can never really see the difference no matter how hard you look.

If feel like you are not ready to use a fully manual camera, do not worry too much, all digital SLR cameras come with automatic settings.
